About the Event

This 5-week (6 classes) program is a continuation of our Acting Technique I class at The Playground Acting Program. This class covers a myriad of acting techniques, works on building the actors' confidence on and off the stage, and allows the student to continue to explore high-level acting techniques through monologue work with an introduction to scene work.

Through this 5-week program, students will master acting techniques such as:

  • Stanislavski-Based: Objectives, Obstacles, & Tactics (action)
  • Stanislavski-Based: Given Circumstances
  • Memorization Techniques and Methods
  • Warm up techniques 
  • Physical and Vocal Viewpoints Techniques adapted for actors by Anne Bogart & Tina Landau.
  • Uta Hagens: Who am I? Character Work
  • Mesiner Technique: Reality of Doing 
  • "Dance the Text" - How to be more in your body. 
  • How to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Improvisation
  • How to search for quality monologues on your own
  • Meisner Tablework 
  • Actor and The Targert Technique by Declan Donnellan.

At the end of the 5 weeks, students will individually perform a monologue in our student showcase. Family and friends will be encouraged to attend in support of their actor. FINAL SHOWCASE WILL BE ON A SATURDAY. Showcase: March 4th 11:00am-2:00pm

About the Teaching Artist:

Eric Berg is thrilled to be returning to the Playground! Eric is an actor, director, producer, podcast-maker, and teaching artist based in Dallas. He has taught many courses for the Playground and also teaches for Broadway Dallas and Theatre Arlington’s ACT UPS Program. Select acting credits include: Eugene in Brighton Beach Memoirs and Biloxi Blues (Theatre Arlington), Boy in US/THEM (Echo Theatre), Parker in Split Second (Jubilee Theatre), Damis in Tartuffe, and Sebastian in Twelfth Night (SMU). Eric has directed productions of in a word (Echo), Eurydice, and STELLA (SMU) and numerous readings for Kitchen Dog Theater, Echo, and IMPRINT Theatreworks. He has served as associate/assistant director at AT&T PAC, Dallas Theatre Center, Stage West, Kitchen Dog, and Jubilee. Eric has been a proud Producing Partner at Echo Theatre since 2019, where he has produced three seasons of mainstage productions and Echo Reads, a touring series of staged readings. He is also the co-founder/producer of Echo Offstage, an interview-based podcast focusing on the most influential and innovative women+ in theatre. He holds a Certificate of Achievement in Drama from the SC Governor's School of the Arts & Humanities and a BFA in Theatre from SMU.
