They're centuries old. They feel like they're written in a different language. They seem complex, archaic, indecipherable. But what if someone told you that they're actually some of the most relatable, accessible and important pieces of art that actors can work with today? That's what William Shakespeare's plays are - classical drama that contemporary actors can use to enhance their craft, enrich their lives, and book jobs. In the Shakespeare Series, Playground students will discover these timeless texts anew, learning how to decode the Bard's poetry, make sense of his heightened vocabulary, and speak his text like they're speaking words of their own.

This class will conclude with students performing thier Shakespeare monologues at our Monologue Showcase on Saturday, December 9th. 

 Teaching Artist Bio:

Carson Wright is an actor based in North Texas with deep roots in the local community. He first ventured into the performing arts at the Theatre Conservatory in Dallas' Arts Magnet High School before going on to earn a B.F.A. at the Southern Methodist University Meadows School of the Arts. During college, he began working as a professional stage & screen actor while teaching theatre to students of all ages; he has continued pursuing both art and education in the time since. Carson is represented by the Kim Dawson Agency and has recently worked with Shakespeare Dallas, Shakespeare Everywhere, Second Thought Theatre, Echo Theatre, WaterTower Theatre and Kitchen Dog Theater.
